Black and white photography workshop by Mark Banks in Saltburn

Black and White Workshop (RPS)

Organised for the Royal Photographic Society
17th September 2020

Details

Mark is a proud member of the Royal Photographic Society and runs practical photography workshops for them around the UK. These workshops are a great way of accelerating your photographic skills along with meeting up with like-minded RPS members with a passion for landscape photography. If you are a member of the RPS these workshops offer great value for money!

Black and White Photography is a great way of expressing atmosphere and drama. It also instantly feels artistic due to having colour stripped away from it. But what makes a good black and white photograph and how easy is it to interpret colour into shades of grey when we naturally see in colour?

Join professional landscape photographer, Mark Banks, at this thrilling location to find out the answers to these and other questions.

Venue Information

Meet at Cat Nab Car Park at the bottom of Saltburn Bank (Google Maps: https://goo.gl/maps/Nxuo4u8uk9UGGV4Z7). Please note that parking charges apply and are not included in the price of this event.

There are numerous cafe’s near to the pier for refreshments and lunch. However, these can be busy at this time of year so you may wish to bring a packed lunch in order to maximise photography time.

There is a public toilet in the car park.

This workshop is suitable for wheelchair users. Please contact Mark in advance if this is the case, so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Clothing & Medication

Please wear clothing suitable for shooting at this time of year on the coast. It can be chilly even in June! Wellington boots can be useful along with an umbrella if it looks like it may rain. Jeans are not recommended!

Mark is a trained first-aider but is not allowed to administer medicine. Therefore, please bring with you all necessary medication including inhalers, epi-pens and any other medications you rely on.

Insurance

Mark has public liability insurance for negligence caused by him, which is underwritten by Chubb Insurance Company of Europe Ltd. You are strongly recommended to take out travel insurance in case of illness, accident, cancellation or any other factor outside of Mark's control (Terms and conditions apply - please contact Mark for written details).

Testimonials

I just wanted to say thank you for a great workshop in Glencoe, despite the weather! You are an excellent workshop leader with a high degree of professionalism, a methodical approach to landscape photography and the ability to adapt your teaching to your clients and the weather.

~ Fiona M

Thank you so much for such an inspirational day yesterday and for all your patience! I love my prints, thank you! I felt as though I achieved what I had set out to do and learn the principles of printing and look forward to giving things a go myself.

Hi Mark, Just a note to thank you again for such a wonderful week in so many respects. I so enjoyed the locations and the photography. Lots to process and think about again and some new exciting things to try. Your tuition and attention to detail is much appreciated and I always feel inspired again to get out with my camera. See you before too long in Yorkshire.

~ Anne W

Teach me and I remember.
Involve me and I learn."

“Mark Banks is quite simply one of the best teachers of photography I have ever met. His secret is an apparently endless supply of patience, and an acute analytical approach to developing systematic problem-solving tactics in photography, which he makes effortless and fun to learn, whether in the field or in the editing suite. Mark’s artistry, empathy, kindness and charm mean he is always a joy to work with, or to be taught by.”
