Testimonials

He is one of the best educators I have ever worked with, regardless of discipline…I will come back in a heartbeat, to take other workshops at the gallery that Mr Banks is conducting.”

~ Mr R Fosler, Massachusetts, USA

"I just wanted to thank you once again for the Robin Hood’s Bay course last week. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but more than that I left with a far greater confidence in my compositional abilities, and a decent basic knowledge of Lightroom. The location, accommodation and organisation were first rate, and your maxim of always considering the composition and only later considering whether you could pull it off resounded."

~ Mr N Farrimond, UK

It can be very satisfying 'getting it right' in camera and Mark encourages this approach in his practical workshops. However, taking the image is only half the story. Due to the way that digital cameras render images, it is more important than ever to process them using specialist software like Adobe Lightroom and/or Photoshop in order to extract the very best out of each image. Improving your post-production skills can vastly enhance your images but where to start?

Mark teaches post-production in a logical, step-by-step manner so that each participant leaves with a sound understanding of how to glean the very best from each image. Working on Mark's own 27" screen or your own computer, you will be guided on not only how to use Lightroom but more importantly, why and where to apply adjustments. Mark will also demonstrate his own personal workflow including importing images, cataloguing in a logical way, processing the image and finally preparing the image for print or web.

A typical Lightroom day consists of:

  • A minimum of 8 hours tuition.
  • An introduction to the day to discuss your specific requirements (participants are encouraged to bring a small number of images either in print or electronically to help Mark understand the level you are currently working at and to discuss composition and technique).
  • Understanding the import feature in Lightroom
  • How to catalogue and file images in a logical manner within the Library Module.
  • Techniques used to understand what adjustments need to be made for each individual image - including tips and tricks - nothing is a secret!
  • Understanding colour.
  • Preparing your image for print using soft-proofing.
  • How to use Layers in Photoshop (for experienced users or users that have already had a day using Lightroom with Mark already)
  • Using Layer Masks and blending modes (for experienced users or users that have already had a day using Lightroom with Mark already)
  • Using Photoshop for more advanced creative techniques (to discuss with Mark - for experienced users)
  • Course notes synopsis on points covered during the day.
  • Lunch is included for participants visiting Mark at his home.
