Teach me and I remember.
Involve me and I learn."

Quote...

“Mark Banks is quite simply one of the best teachers of photography I have ever met. His secret is an apparently endless supply of patience, and an acute analytical approach to developing systematic problem-solving tactics in photography, which he makes effortless and fun to learn, whether in the field or in the editing suite. Mark’s artistry, empathy, kindness and charm mean he is always a joy to work with, or to be taught by.”

~ Joe Cornish

Testimonials

He is one of the best educators I have ever worked with, regardless of discipline…I will come back in a heartbeat, to take other workshops at the gallery that Mr Banks is conducting.”

Yorkshire Coast Landscape Photography Workshop with Joe Cornish and Mark Banks

North Yorkshire Coast
Joe Cornish & Mark Banks

1st - 5th July 2019 - ***One Place Remaining***

Introduction

Yorkshire is blessed with the most wonderful coastline from Victorian piers to dramatic cliffs and ship-wrecks – it’s got the lot! This coastline is a glorious combination of geology, history and architecture. From the cliff faces and rocky shorelines around Saltwick Bay to the architectural heritage of Whitby, and the historic smuggling villages of Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes, there is no shortage of photographic locations to inspire you. Where the North York Moors meets the sea, the coast predominantly faces north and east so during this mid-summer period the sun sets and rises over the North Sea creating yet more great photographic opportunities.

This is an intensive workshop specifically designed for intermediate and advanced level photographers giving you a chance to improve your photography while gaining an insight into Joe and Mark's working methods and philosophy in a small, friendly and informal group.

Accommodation

We will be staying at the Victoria Hotel in the picturesque fishing village of Robin Hood’s Bay perfectly located on the coast and within the North York Moors National Park. Accommodation is single occupancy in one of the hotel’s luxury bedrooms. These ensuite, comfortable and fully equipped rooms will offer great views either of the adjacent coastline or the beautiful North York Moors. We will be enjoying a full breakfast at the hotel each morning.

Itinerary

Monday 1st July – Hotel check-in
We will be staying at the Victoria Hotel in Robin Hood's Bay, a great location for exploring this stretch of coast.
1:30pm – Meet & Greet
Here you will meet your fellow participants and tutors before Joe and Mark give an Introductory talk outlining what you can expect from the week’s workshop and the chance to ask any questions you might have. Afterwards you will head out on your first field trip with Joe & Mark.
Tuesday 2nd July – Thursday 4th July
The days will be full, starting with tuition on dawn photographic shoots and finishing with the group enjoying dinner together at the hotel each evening. Field trips to Joe’s favourite locations will provide plenty of great photographic opportunities as he and Mark provide tuition in all aspects of camera craft and dealing with elusive weather and lighting conditions. They will seek to advance your technique, sense of composition and understanding of light and the limited size of the group is designed to allow for lots of one-to-one tuition. While the emphasis of the trip is undoubtedly the photographic field trips Joe and Mark will always fit the daily itinerary to make the most of the prevailing weather conditions.

Joe and Mark will also offer an opportunity for you to take part in a Portfolio Review session where you may bring along some of your own images for constructive comment and critique. On evenings (or if the weather is too inclement), participants may also bring along their laptop computers for advice on post-production tips and techniques, using Adobe Lightroom Classic software.

Friday 5th July – Hotel check-out & more photography
After checking out of the hotel, a final morning of photography with Joe & Mark awaits. We will be aiming to wrap up the workshop about 1:30pm.
