"Tell me and I forget.
Teach me and I remember.
Involve me and I learn."

~ Benjamin Franklin

“Mark Banks is quite simply one of the best teachers of photography I have ever met. His secret is an apparently endless supply of patience, and an acute analytical approach to developing systematic problem-solving tactics in photography, which he makes effortless and fun to learn, whether in the field or in the editing suite. Mark’s artistry, empathy, kindness and charm mean he is always a joy to work with, or to be taught by.”

~ Joe Cornish

He is one of the best educators I have ever worked with, regardless of discipline…I will come back in a heartbeat, to take other workshops at the gallery that Mr Banks is conducting.”

~ Richard F, Massachusetts, USA

Autumn - Torridon & Wester Rosee

Autumn - Torridon and Wester Ross
Scottish Highlands

24th - 30th October 2020 - FULLY BOOKED

It’s no surprise to those who visit Scotland that it repeatedly gets nominated as the best place in the UK for landscape photography. With mountains aplenty and picturesque lochs, islands, shorelines, rivers, waterfalls and woodland there really is no better place to learn about - and improve your landscape photography skills.

Due to the more inclement weather that the Scottish Highlands experiences all year-round, Torridon and Wester-Ross offer some of the most spectacular autumn colour in the UK. Along with magical, soft light at this time of year, prepare to be punch-drunk on colour!

This workshop will be based in Gairloch in the Scottish Highlands. In order to get the maximum 5 days out of this workshop, you will arrive the evening prior to the start of the workshop on Saturday 24th October and leave on Friday 30th October (overnight stays for these days are included in the price). The workshop will officially start on Sunday 25th October after breakfast when Mark will start with an introductory talk before opening the floor to any questions.

For the next five days, participants will be transported to numerous amazing locations around the area where Mark will help you explore composition and technical skills in order to make successful landscape images. There will be opportunities for photography throughout the entire day due to the time of year and Mark will be on hand to answer any questions and issues you may be experiencing. There will also be time for processing your images using Mark’s laptop (or your own) where he will explain exactly how to get the very best out of your images using Adobe Lightroom Classic software.

As this workshop is limited to just 4 participants there will be plenty of time for one-to-one tuition and to discuss photography at whatever level you are - beginner or experienced amateur.

The workshop will officially close on the evening of Thursday 29th October with a de-brief of your experience over celebratory drinks. Participants will check out on the Saturday morning after breakfast.

Here is a list of recommended equipment you should bring…

  • Camera body and a selection of lenses that ideally cover wide angle to medium telephoto (for instance 25mm to 200mm).

  • A small set of graduated filters (please contact Mark if you need further help on which filters to bring).
  • Lens cloth

You may also bring with you a laptop computer for processing images taken during the workshop with guidance from Mark.

  • Plenty of layers to keep warm
  • Hat
  • Gloves
  • Waterproof coat
  • Waterproof trousers
  • Walking wellingtons and/or boots
