"Tell me and I forget.
Teach me and I remember.
Involve me and I learn."

~ Benjamin Franklin

“Mark Banks is quite simply one of the best teachers of photography I have ever met. His secret is an apparently endless supply of patience, and an acute analytical approach to developing systematic problem-solving tactics in photography, which he makes effortless and fun to learn, whether in the field or in the editing suite. Mark’s artistry, empathy, kindness and charm mean he is always a joy to work with, or to be taught by.”

~ Joe Cornish

He is one of the best educators I have ever worked with, regardless of discipline…I will come back in a heartbeat, to take other workshops at the gallery that Mr Banks is conducting.”

~ Richard F, Massachusetts, USA

Autumn Colour:
English Lake District

9th - 13th November 2020 - 2 Places Remaining

The Lake District is a wonderful place for landscape photography and autumn is a particularly photogenic and colourful time to visit. This workshop will be based in Grasmere where we will photograph around the lakes of Grasmere & Rydal Water as well as travelling a little further into the Langdales and Coniston area, too. Big vistas, colourful woodland, quarry visits and lakeside views will all be on the menu!

This 5-day workshop will suit landscape photographers from beginner to advanced - with tuition provided by professional landscape photographer, Mark Banks throughout the workshop. Transport will be provided to all locations for the duration of the workshop.

During the evenings (or days of particularly inclement weather), Mark will be on hand to help process images taken during the workshop using Adobe Lightroom Classic on Mark’s laptop and 27” monitor (you may choose to bring your own laptop if you wish). Participants are also encouraged to bring along prints or digital images to discuss composition, processing and advice about printing.

Accommodation, lunches and evening meals are not included in the price of this workshop. This is to allow participants to choose the level of accommodation that suits their budget and requirements - and Grasmere has a plethora to choose from. However, the workshop will run from The Grand at Grasmere and Mark has negotiated a significant discount for those wishing to stay there - including if you wish to arrive the day before and leave the day after the workshop. Once you have booked the workshop, please contact Mark for an exclusive discount code which can be used when booking online at The Grand. Please note that rooms at The Grand are strictly available on a first-come-first-served basis and Mark cannot guarantee any availability.

The workshop will start at 10 am on Monday 9th November and finish at 5 pm on Friday 13th November 2020.

Moderate fitness level is required for this workshop and due to the terrain, this workshop would be unsuitable for people with limited mobility. Although beautiful, the Lake District can be a hostile environment at times, therefore all locations are carefully selected by Mark for ease of access and within walking distance of his vehicle at all times. Daily temperatures are usually in single figures at this time of year, so it’s imperative participants come equipped with suitable warm outdoor and waterproof clothing, plenty of layers and good walking shoes/boots. Walking Wellingtons would be ideal for all locations and highly recommended to bring with you.

Transport will be provided throughout the workshop and we will visit the nearby cafes at lunchtimes.

Please bring/wear:

  • Warm, waterproof outdoor clothing with plenty of layers,
  • Comfortable footwear (ideally wellington boots)
  • Umbrella
  • Hats, scarfs and gloves
  • Camera, charged batteries, memory card, tripod and graduated filters (ideally 1, 2 & 3 stop hard graduated filters).
