Teach me and I remember.
Involve me and I learn."

Quote...

“Mark Banks is quite simply one of the best teachers of photography I have ever met. His secret is an apparently endless supply of patience, and an acute analytical approach to developing systematic problem-solving tactics in photography, which he makes effortless and fun to learn, whether in the field or in the editing suite. Mark’s artistry, empathy, kindness and charm mean he is always a joy to work with, or to be taught by.”

~ Joe Cornish

Testimonials

He is one of the best educators I have ever worked with, regardless of discipline…I will come back in a heartbeat, to take other workshops at the gallery that Mr Banks is conducting.”

~ Richard F, Massachusetts, USA

(Royal Photographic Society)

28th March 2020

Mark is a proud member of the Royal Photographic Society and runs practical photography workshops for them around the UK. These workshops are a great way of accelerating your photographic skills along with meeting up with like-minded RPS members with a passion for landscape photography. If you are a member of the RPS these workshops offer great value for money!

Based in Bude, North Cornwall, this workshop is for those looking to make less obvious and more personal abstract images instead of the bigger vista (although you may do this, too if you wish). At low tide we will explore the rocky outcrops around the mouth of the bay, discussing composition as well as techniques such as focus stacking where applicable. At high tide, we will make abstract long exposure images of the outdoor pool as well as exploring other areas such as the nearby beach huts and canal.

In the summer, Bude is a very popular tourist destination, so the beach and surrounding area are well-appointed with toilets, cafes and even footpaths.

As we will be exploring nearby rocky outcrops there will be areas of uneven terrain but this will be minimal and could be avoided by those with limited mobility. To photograph the outdoor swimming pool we need to descend a flight of wide concrete steps, therefore this part of the workshop would not be suitable for wheelchair users.

Maximum group size: 6

You may bring a packed lunch or eat in one of the many cafes within a short distance from the car park meeting point.

Please also bring:

  • Warm and waterproof clothing
  • Wellies are advisable for the beach
  • Camera, charged batteries, memory card
  • Tripod
  • Macro lens if you have one (optional)
  • Graduated filters (1, 2 & 3 stop hard graduated filters) if you have them (optional)
  • Small change for car parking.

See this Google Maps link for the meeting point.
