Capture to Computer: Shoreline Studies (RPS)

Organised for the Royal Photographic Society
28th June & 5th July 2021

Mark is a proud member of the Royal Photographic Society and runs practical photography workshops for them around the UK. These workshops are a great way of accelerating your photographic skills along with meeting up with like-minded RPS members with a passion for landscape photography. If you are a member of the RPS these workshops offer great value for money!

This is a 2-day event starting with a photographic shoot on location followed by a group online event a week later using Zoom software.

Spittal beach has an amazing geological array of rock formations and striations to keep a keen abstract photographer occupied for hours! Professional landscape photographer, Mark Banks will be on hand throughout the day offering help and advice on composition as well as demonstrating technical skills including focus-stacking to achieve perfect results.

In an online full-day session the week after, Mark will invite participants to send him a few of your favourite images from the shoot for him to demonstrate how to get the very best out of them using Lightroom Classic and Photoshop software (where applicable). This session will be recordable for you to replicate processing your images in the future. All processed images will be returned to the participant.

Full joining instructions will be sent prior to the start of the workshop

Please bring a packed lunch and drink.

Please bring suitable clothing in line with the local weather forecast. It is generally always more chilly at the coast so please bring extra layers in case. A pair of wellington boots are essential for walking through rock pools etc… Please also bring an umbrella whether raining or not as it can work well as shading from the sun, too.

I just wanted to say thank you for a great workshop in Glencoe, despite the weather! You are an excellent workshop leader with a high degree of professionalism, a methodical approach to landscape photography and the ability to adapt your teaching to your clients and the weather.

Thank you so much for such an inspirational day yesterday and for all your patience! I love my prints, thank you! I felt as though I achieved what I had set out to do and learn the principles of printing and look forward to giving things a go myself.

Hi Mark, Just a note to thank you again for such a wonderful week in so many respects. I so enjoyed the locations and the photography. Lots to process and think about again and some new exciting things to try. Your tuition and attention to detail is much appreciated and I always feel inspired again to get out with my camera. See you before too long in Yorkshire.

~ Anne W

"Tell me and I forget.
Teach me and I remember.
Involve me and I learn."

Benjamin Franklin

“Mark Banks is quite simply one of the best teachers of photography I have ever met. His secret is an apparently endless supply of patience, and an acute analytical approach to developing systematic problem-solving tactics in photography, which he makes effortless and fun to learn, whether in the field or in the editing suite. Mark’s artistry, empathy, kindness and charm mean he is always a joy to work with, or to be taught by.”
