There is no doubt that Adobe Photoshop software is a very useful and powerful tool for manipulating images. It's a very creative way of transforming an image to suit your style and ideas but it's arguably more complex to use than Lightroom Classic. Learning the key areas of Photoshop is fundamental to the success of using Photoshop's more powerful tools, which is where these online 1-2-1 sessions can really help. I will explain in a methodical way (and at your pace) how to get the very best out of your image and all sessions may be recorded for you to review in the future, too.

A typical session

A typical Photoshop 1-2-1 On-line session could consist of the following to suit your needs:

  • Opening images the correct way into Photoshop for optimal use thereafter.
  • Explanation of the tools and panels within Photoshop's interface.
  • Using Marquee, Lasso and Wand tools to select specific areas of an image.
  • Using the 'Content Aware Fill' command to remove unwanted objects seamlessly within an image.
  • Understanding Layers and their differences.
  • Using Layer Masks - what they are and what they do.
  • Adding text to an image
  • Combining two or more images.
  • Using Filters to blur and/or distort images
  • Using the many blend modes for blending two or more images to create abstract artwork.
  • Saving and exporting processed images for print or web use.

The above is typical of what you might like to learn from a session but as they are on a 1-2-1 basis they can be tailor-made to suit your specific requirements. I just wanted to say thank you for a great workshop in Glencoe, despite the weather! You are an excellent workshop leader with a high degree of professionalism, a methodical approach to landscape photography and the ability to adapt your teaching to your clients and the weather.

Thank you so much for such an inspirational day yesterday and for all your patience! I love my prints, thank you! I felt as though I achieved what I had set out to do and learn the principles of printing and look forward to giving things a go myself.

Hi Mark, Just a note to thank you again for such a wonderful week in so many respects. I so enjoyed the locations and the photography. Lots to process and think about again and some new exciting things to try. Your tuition and attention to detail is much appreciated and I always feel inspired again to get out with my camera. See you before too long in Yorkshire.

~ Anne W

Teach me and I remember.
Involve me and I learn."

Benjamin Franklin

“Mark Banks is quite simply one of the best teachers of photography I have ever met. His secret is an apparently endless supply of patience, and an acute analytical approach to developing systematic problem-solving tactics in photography, which he makes effortless and fun to learn, whether in the field or in the editing suite. Mark’s artistry, empathy, kindness and charm mean he is always a joy to work with, or to be taught by.”
