Based in Amble, this 5-day (6-night) photography workshop will allow us to explore the many beautiful locations along the award-winning coastline of Northumberland. As well as visiting the famous locations of Bamburgh and Dunstanburgh with their iconic, towering castles, we will also visit less well-known areas to photograph intimate shoreline studies, too - including Spittal Beach where Mark took 'Liquid Gold', an image that became a finalist in the 2020 Close Up Photographer of the Year Competition (see right). We will also visit Holy Island (Lindisfarne) famed for its breathtaking natural beauty, enchanting history and rich, spiritual heritage.
This 5-day workshop will suit landscape photographers from beginner to advanced - with tuition provided by professional landscape photographer, Mark Banks throughout the workshop. Mark will discuss compositional skills for the bigger landscapes through to small abstracts on a personal level. This workshop is limited to just 4 people for optimum personal tuition time.
During the evenings (or days of particularly inclement weather), Mark will be on hand to help process images taken during the workshop using Adobe Lightroom Classic on Mark’s laptop and 27” monitor (you may choose to bring your own laptop if you wish). Participants are also encouraged to bring along prints or digital images to discuss composition, processing and advice about printing.
Accommodation and breakfast are included in this workshop - lunch and evening meals are not. This is to allow us the flexibility to 'eat out' on occasions in order to maximise photography time on location at the 'golden hour'.
Arriving on the evening of Sunday 2nd October 2022, we will meet in the bar for introductory drinks. The workshop will officially start on Monday morning when we will discuss the format for the week and answer any questions. Transport will be provided to all locations for the duration of the workshop and will come to a close after breakfast on Saturday 8th October.
Here is a list of recommended equipment you should bring…
You may also bring with you a laptop computer for processing images taken during the workshop with guidance from Mark.
An Easy level of fitness is required for this workshop - all locations have been carefully selected for their stunning views, safety, convenience and ease of access.

Hi Mark, Just a note to thank you again for such a wonderful week in so many respects. I so enjoyed the locations and the photography. Lots to process and think about again and some new exciting things to try. Your tuition and attention to detail is much appreciated and I always feel inspired again to get out with my camera. See you before too long in Yorkshire.

"Tell me and I forget.
Teach me and I remember.
Involve me and I learn."
“Mark Banks is quite simply one of the best teachers of photography I have ever met. His secret is an apparently endless supply of patience, and an acute analytical approach to developing systematic problem-solving tactics in photography, which he makes effortless and fun to learn, whether in the field or in the editing suite. Mark’s artistry, empathy, kindness and charm mean he is always a joy to work with, or to be taught by.”
