Unlock the Hidden Beauty of Yorkshire with Infrared Photography!

Join me for an exclusive 3-day workshop dedicated to the captivating art of infrared photography, set against the stunning landscapes of Yorkshire. This workshop is designed for photographers eager to explore the unique visual possibilities offered by infrared converted cameras, capturing the world in a surreal and enchanting light.

Infrared photography offers a myriad of benefits that set it apart from traditional photography. By capturing light that is invisible to the human eye, infrared images reveal a hidden world, transforming everyday scenes into extraordinary visions. Lush green foliage appears bright white, skies take on dramatic tones, and water surfaces gain a mirror-like quality. This technique allows you to create otherworldly images with a dreamlike atmosphere, providing a fresh perspective on familiar landscapes.

During this workshop, we will journey through some of Yorkshire's most picturesque locations, from rolling hills and ancient woodland to historic sites and serene waterways. Each day will combine field excursions with hands-on instruction, where you will learn how to effectively use an infrared converted camera to capture the ethereal beauty of these settings.

In addition to fieldwork, the workshop will culminate in a comprehensive session on processing infrared images. You will discover how to enhance your photographs using specialised techniques in post-processing, ensuring that your final images fully reflect the unique qualities of infrared photography.

By the end of the workshop, you will have a portfolio of stunning infrared images and a thorough understanding of both the technical and creative aspects of this fascinating medium. Whether you are an experienced photographer looking to expand your skillset or a beginner excited to try something new, this workshop offers a rewarding and inspiring experience.

No Infrared Camera? No Worries!

This workshop does not require you to posess your own Infrared converted camera! Each participant will be loaned an IR converted camera for the duration of the workshop. This is ideal if you'd like to know more about infrared photography before taking the plunge. All you need to bring is an SD card and a tripod if you have one. Of course, if you already own an IR camera, I encourage you to bring it along.

Sedate, thoughftul photography

Infrared photography does not warrant early morning starts or late evening finishes. In-fact, just the opposite - we will be making the most of normal daylight hours when infrared photography comes into its own!

Itinerary

Day 1 - 12 noon:  I will collect you from the hotel and drive you to my home for introductions, a light lunch and to discuss camera settings. Using my vehicle, we will drive to the fringes of the North York Moors to photograph the exquiste Hawnby Hill and its loan trees as well as Sutton Bank with its big vista views over Gormire Lake and the Vale of Mowbray. Early evening, we will return to my home for drinks and a prepared two-course evening meal before returning you to the hotel for the night.

Day 2 - 9:00 am (after breakfast at our home): I will drive you to into the beautiful Yorkshire Dales where we will photograph the stunning Cauldron Force waterfall and Lady Hill in Wensleydale. After a packed lunch (provided), we will then head into Swaledale to photograph the amazing barns and meadows criss-crossed with its trademark drystone walls which stand out eloquently in infrared.

Day 3 - 9:00 am (after breakfast at our home): I will drive you to my favourite Beech tree woodland, where we will discuss woodland compositions with an eye to infrared. Here, I will explain the differences you need to be aware of when shooting in infrared. We will then return to my home for a light lunch.

Day 3 - 1:00 pm: An important aspect of infrared photography is the correct process in order to get the very best out of your images. Using my large 27" computer, we will process some images taken during the workshop where I will discuss the correct methods required to produce a beautiful infrared image - as well as some pitfalls to be aware of.

Day 3 - 4:00 pm: The workshop ends and I will drop you off at the hotel to collect you vehicle (or drop you off at the train station whichever is applicable).

Please ensure that you have adequate travel insurance in place. It is a term of the contract between us that you will obtain the appropriate travel insurance cover before you set out on the workshop. Except where otherwise expressly stated in these booking conditions, I regret I cannot accept liability or pay any compensation where the performance or prompt performance of my obligations under my contract with you is prevented or affected by or you otherwise suffer any damage, loss or expense of any nature as a result of “force majeure”. Please note, I cannot accept any liability for any damage, loss, expense or other sum(s) of any description (1) which on the basis of the information given to me by you concerning your booking prior to me accepting it, I could not have foreseen you would suffer or incur if I breached the contract with you or (2) which did not result from any breach of contract or other fault by myself where I am responsible for them, my suppliers. Additionally, I cannot accept liability for any business losses.

You will be allocated either a single room or a double/twin room for single occupancy. There is no single occupancy surcharge. Where double or twin rooms are available, they will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis at the time of check-in.

The type of workshops I offer require flexibility and must allow for alternatives. For this reason, the outline itinerary and workshop description must be taken as an indication of what may take place on the workshop, and not as a contractual obligation on the part of Mark Banks Photography.

I do not accept responsibility or liability for death, bodily injury or illness caused to you during the workshop, unless arising from the negligent act and/or omission on my part or on the part of any of my employees (providing they were at the time acting within the course of their employment). Please note that any itinerary noted on the workshop description is subject to change due to weather conditions and/or the capability of participants.

By booking a workshop with Mark Banks Photography you are agreeing to accept all of the above conditions.

"Tell me and I forget.
Teach me and I remember.
Involve me and I learn."

Benjamin Franklin

“Mark Banks is quite simply one of the best teachers of photography I have ever met. His secret is an apparently endless supply of patience, and an acute analytical approach to developing systematic problem-solving tactics in photography, which he makes effortless and fun to learn, whether in the field or in the editing suite. Mark’s artistry, empathy, kindness and charm mean he is always a joy to work with, or to be taught by.”
