Details

Are you new to digital photography and want to advance your photography skills to the next level?

Alternatively, you may just be out of practice and fancy a refresher to get you back on track.

About the workshop:

This One-Day course is led by our experienced tutor Mark Banks and will be focused on landscape photography. However many of the basic techniques are transferable to all types of photography.

The group size on this workshop is limited to just 5 participants to enable plenty of one-to-one tuition and help and support will be provided throughout the day.

Meeting at the Joe Cornish Gallery in Northallerton, North Yorkshire, we will begin with refreshments and an introductory briefing before tuition begins. Mark will start by looking at your camera’s basic functions and settings, and how to use them to the best advantage for the subject you are photographing. You will also discuss focusing methods and composition before heading out on location to put the theory into practice.

From the gallery, Mark will take participants to one of the many inspirational locations on our doorstep, in either the North York Moors, or Yorkshire Dales. Tuition will continue with individual feedback provided throughout the day to help you translate what you learn directly into your images.

At the end of the day Mark will bring everybody back to the gallery in Northallerton.

What to bring:

Just bring the camera equipment that you would normally use.

Please bring a packed lunch and drink (take into account that you could be out until sunset depending on the weather). You should also have warm clothing, comfortable footwear, an umbrella and any medication necessary. Wellington boots would also be advisable just in case we end up near water.

The workshop group is limited to 5 to enable each participant to receive plenty of help and support.

I just wanted to say thank you for a great workshop in Glencoe, despite the weather! You are an excellent workshop leader with a high degree of professionalism, a methodical approach to landscape photography and the ability to adapt your teaching to your clients and the weather.

Thank you so much for such an inspirational day yesterday and for all your patience! I love my prints, thank you! I felt as though I achieved what I had set out to do and learn the principles of printing and look forward to giving things a go myself.

~ Geoff K

Hi Mark, Just a note to thank you again for such a wonderful week in so many respects. I so enjoyed the locations and the photography. Lots to process and think about again and some new exciting things to try. Your tuition and attention to detail is much appreciated and I always feel inspired again to get out with my camera. See you before too long in Yorkshire.

"Tell me and I forget.
Teach me and I remember.
Involve me and I learn."

Benjamin Franklin

“Mark Banks is quite simply one of the best teachers of photography I have ever met. His secret is an apparently endless supply of patience, and an acute analytical approach to developing systematic problem-solving tactics in photography, which he makes effortless and fun to learn, whether in the field or in the editing suite. Mark’s artistry, empathy, kindness and charm mean he is always a joy to work with, or to be taught by.”
