Photography masterclass in Venice, Italy with Mark Banks and Steve Gosling

Venice Masterclass: Day & Night

Written on .

In December 2021, my good friend and professional photographer, Steve Gosling and I are running a rather special photography masterclass in Venice, Italy. Not only will we be photographing popular locations such as St. Mark's Square, but we will also find ourselves exploring other lesser-known locations during the day and after dark.

Venice is one of the most beautiful and unique cities globally. This photography masterclass is designed to get the very best out of the location with two experienced professional landscape photographers and educators. Our approach to the art of photography is very different and complementary, which will allow participants to explore visual concepts and techniques in various forms throughout the workshop.

December is a magical time of year to visit Venice as the run-up to Christmas makes for more unique images with far fewer tourists and more atmospheric photographs. In winter, Venice is prone to small areas of flooding called 'Aqua Alta', which creates excellent photographic potential and low-lying mist generated from the lagoon adding extra drama and atmosphere. To take advantage of this, we will find ourselves shooting during the day and early evening once dark when Venice's streets light up with the soft, warm glow from the ornate Venetian street lamps. There will also be the opportunity for pre-breakfast dawn shoots for those who wish to take part, too. Both Steve and Mark will be on hand throughout the workshop, offering advice on all aspects of composition and technique so that you return home with beautiful images.

After such a turbulent year why not join us on what will be an incredible week of exquisite photography?
