"Tell me and I forget.
Teach me and I remember.
Involve me and I learn."

~ Benjamin Franklin

“Mark Banks is quite simply one of the best teachers of photography I have ever met. His secret is an apparently endless supply of patience, and an acute analytical approach to developing systematic problem-solving tactics in photography, which he makes effortless and fun to learn, whether in the field or in the editing suite. Mark’s artistry, empathy, kindness and charm mean he is always a joy to work with, or to be taught by.”

~ Joe Cornish

He is one of the best educators I have ever worked with, regardless of discipline…I will come back in a heartbeat, to take other workshops at the gallery that Mr Banks is conducting.”

~ Mr R Fosler, Massachusetts, USA

"I just wanted to thank you once again for the Robin Hood’s Bay course last week. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but more than that I left with a far greater confidence in my compositional abilities, and a decent basic knowledge of Lightroom. The location, accommodation and organisation were first-rate, and your maxim of always considering the composition and only later considering whether you could pull it off resounded."

~ Mr N Farrimond, London

The day actually relighted my interest in going out locally.

~ Mr M Taylor, Leeds

Mark not only has an extensive knowledge of photography and Lightroom and a keen eye for making a good picture, he also has the essential skill of all good trainers - the ability to match himself to his client and their way of working and learning. He has combed out the tangles of my (self-taught) Lightroom set-up, shown me how to use the tools properly and effectively, and got me excited about making the most of my pictures. I wish I had known about his tutorials when I first started out!

~ Mrs Carol C, York

Mark is a proud member of the Royal Photographic Society and runs practical photography workshops for them around the North East of England. These workshops are a great way of accelerating your photographic skills along with meeting up with like-minded photographers with a passion for landscape photography. Although discounts are available for RPS members you do not have to be a member to take part in any of these workshops.

Newcastle is famous for its stunning architecture and bold monuments and therefore makes it the perfect place to capture wonderful cityscape images. There is, however, an even greater opportunity to make amazing abstract images, too, due to its plethora of small alleyways, graffiti art and a healthy mixture of old and new buildings and bridges across the city.

On this workshop, you will be encouraged to think a little deeper than the obvious and also consider both colour and black and white image options to suit your way of thinking. Professional landscape photographer Mark Banks will be on hand all day to help you with your ideas and technique in order to make successful images. Although you’re encouraged to bring a tripod on this workshop it is not essential.
