"Tell me and I forget.
Teach me and I remember.
Involve me and I learn."

~ Benjamin Franklin

“Mark Banks is quite simply one of the best teachers of photography I have ever met. His secret is an apparently endless supply of patience, and an acute analytical approach to developing systematic problem-solving tactics in photography, which he makes effortless and fun to learn, whether in the field or in the editing suite. Mark’s artistry, empathy, kindness and charm mean he is always a joy to work with, or to be taught by.”

~ Joe Cornish

He is one of the best educators I have ever worked with, regardless of discipline…I will come back in a heartbeat, to take other workshops at the gallery that Mr Banks is conducting.”

~ Richard F, Massachusetts, USA

Teesmouth: Long Exposure workshop for the Royal Photographic Society with Mark Banks

Teesmouth: Long Exposures
(Royal Photographic Society)

17th April 2020 - FULLY BOOKED

Mark is a proud member of the Royal Photographic Society and runs practical photography workshops for them around the UK. These workshops are a great way of accelerating your photographic skills along with meeting up with like-minded RPS members with a passion for landscape photography. If you are a member of the RPS these workshops offer great value for money!

Professional photographer Mark Banks has been running workshops around the Tees Estuary for years as it is full of photographic potential. In this workshop, Mark will be providing tuition on achieving well-balanced long exposure images using nearby locations such as the small harbour of Paddy’s Hole (with its fishing boats), the pier with its lighthouse and the wind farm tucked along the coast. The workshop will finish at sunset (if there is one) and ideal for both colour and black and white photography.

This will be a group C event for up to 6 people.

Lunch arrangements: In order to maximise photo opportunities, participants are asked to bring a packed lunch and drinks.

Please also bring:

  • Camera, charged batteries, memory card
  • Tripod
  • 10-stop ND filter
  • Graduated filters (1, 2 & 3 stop hard graduated filters) if you have them
  • Warm and waterproof clothing appropriate to the weather
  • Wellies would be advisable for the beach

Although this workshop would be unsuitable for wheelchair users it will be fine for those with limited mobility issues. There is a small flight of steps to access certain parts of the harbour at Paddy’s Hole but Mark will be on hand to help at all times.

The nearest toilets will be in Redcar; about 20 mins round trip by car.

Meet alongside Paddy’s Hole at the end of the Tees Estuary - ignoring the private road signs a couple of miles back (Google Maps:
