"Tell me and I forget.
Teach me and I remember.
Involve me and I learn."

~ benjamin Franklin

“Mark Banks is quite simply one of the best teachers of photography I have ever met. His secret is an apparently endless supply of patience, and an acute analytical approach to developing systematic problem-solving tactics in photography, which he makes effortless and fun to learn, whether in the field or in the editing suite. Mark’s artistry, empathy, kindness and charm mean he is always a joy to work with, or to be taught by.”

~ Joe Cornish

He is one of the best educators I have ever worked with, regardless of discipline…I will come back in a heartbeat, to take other workshops at the gallery that Mr Banks is conducting.”

~ Mr R Fosler, Massachusetts, USA

"I just wanted to thank you once again for the Robin Hood’s Bay course last week. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but more than that I left with a far greater confidence in my compositional abilities, and a decent basic knowledge of Lightroom. The location, accommodation and organisation were first-rate, and your maxim of always considering the composition and only later considering whether you could pull it off resounded."

~ Mr N Farrimond, London

The day actually relighted my interest in going out locally.

~ Mr M Taylor, Leeds

Mark not only has an extensive knowledge of photography and Lightroom and a keen eye for making a good picture, he also has the essential skill of all good trainers - the ability to match himself to his client and their way of working and learning. He has combed out the tangles of my (self-taught) Lightroom set-up, shown me how to use the tools properly and effectively, and got me excited about making the most of my pictures. I wish I had known about his tutorials when I first started out!

Torridon & Wester Ross Landscape Photography Workshop

Wester Ross & Torridon

5 Day Landscape Photography Workshop - FULLY BOOKED (Please contact Mark if you would like to be added to a late cancellations list)

15th - 21st April 2018

Loch Torridon

It’s no surprise to those who visit Scotland that it repeatedly gets nominated as the best place in the UK for landscape photography. With mountains aplenty and picturesque lochs, islands, shorelines, rivers, waterfalls and woodland there really is no better place to learn about - and improve your landscape photography skills.

I’m therefore delighted to offer this full 5-day landscape photography workshop based in Gairloch in the Highlands of Scotland - conveniently located for easy access to the regions of Wester-Ross and Torridon.

This is a real opportunity for people who are passionate about the outdoors to indulge and immerse themselves in an amazing 5 days of landscape photography heaven!

Loch Maree - Wester Ross, Highlands, Scotland

In order to get the maximum 5 days out of this workshop you will arrive the evening prior to the start of the workshop on Sunday 15th April and leave on Saturday 21st April (overnight stays for these days are included in the price). The workshop will officially start on Monday 16th April after breakfast when Mark will start with an introductory talk before opening the floor to any questions.

Mark’s good friend and talented landscape photographer, Gill Hood will be joining him on this workshop and will be on hand throughout to offer support and technical assistance to those who need it.

For the next five days, participants will be transported to numerous locations around the area where Mark and Gill will help you explore composition and technical skills in order to make successful landscape images. There will be opportunities for early morning shoots and evening sunsets - weather permitting. There will also be time for processing your images using Mark’s laptop (or your own) where he will explain exactly how to get the very best out of your images using Adobe Lightroom Classic software.

As this workshop is limited to just 6 participants there will be plenty of time to discuss photography at whatever level you are - beginner or experienced amateur.

The workshop will officially close on Friday evening with a de-brief of your experience over celebratory drinks. Participants will check out on Saturday morning after breakfast.

Camera Equipment

Here is a list of recommended equipment you should bring…

  • Camera body and a selection of lenses that ideally cover wide angle to medium telephoto (for instance 25mm to 200mm).
  • At least two camera batteries

  • Hot-shoe spirit level (if your camera has a level indicator built in that’s fine).
  • Small set of graduated filters (please contact Mark if you need further help on which filters to bring).
  • Lens cloth

You may also bring with you a laptop computer for processing images taken during the workshop with guidance from Mark.
