"Tell me and I forget.
Teach me and I remember.
Involve me and I learn."

“Mark Banks is quite simply one of the best teachers of photography I have ever met. His secret is an apparently endless supply of patience, and an acute analytical approach to developing systematic problem-solving tactics in photography, which he makes effortless and fun to learn, whether in the field or in the editing suite. Mark’s artistry, empathy, kindness and charm mean he is always a joy to work with, or to be taught by.”

~ Joe Cornish

He is one of the best educators I have ever worked with, regardless of discipline…I will come back in a heartbeat, to take other workshops at the gallery that Mr Banks is conducting.”

~ Mr R Fosler, Massachusetts, USA

"I just wanted to thank you once again for the Robin Hood’s Bay course last week. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but more than that I left with a far greater confidence in my compositional abilities, and a decent basic knowledge of Lightroom. The location, accommodation and organisation were first rate, and your maxim of always considering the composition and only later considering whether you could pull it off resounded."

Many people love attending group workshops for a host of reasons. However, others find one to one tuition more personal to their needs.

Mark has been running one to one practical workshops for many years and it is through this knowledge and understand that he has honed a methodical, step-by-step process of teaching landscape photography. This means each participant leaves with a sound technique that they can use again and again in their own landscape photography as they progress and improve. Mark's teaching method is relaxed yet structured and assumes nothing of the participant, so that each person receives a unique workshop tailor-made to their level of experience and requirements.

A typical day consists of:

  • A minimum of 8 hours tuition.
  • An introduction to the day to discuss your specific requirements (participants are encouraged to bring a small number of images either in print or electronically to help Mark understand the level you are currently working at and to discuss composition and technique).
  • Travel to and from a beautiful location in the North East of England, including the Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors and North East Coast (Saltburn, Whitby, Scarborough, Robin Hood's Bay etc...)
  • What to look for in an image, including key compositional pointers.
  • How to master the craft of photography including how to build up to a perfectly executed image using filters.
  • Using filters in a more creative way (for participants looking to advance their filter technique further).
  • Using Neutral Density filters for long exposures (for participants looking to advance their filter technique further).
  • Advice and tips and tricks of the trade - nothing is a secret!
  • Course notes including Mark's logical step-by-step approach to making a better landscape photograph, and other tips.
