"Tell me and I forget.
Teach me and I remember.
Involve me and I learn."

~ Benjamin Franklin

“Mark Banks is quite simply one of the best teachers of photography I have ever met. His secret is an apparently endless supply of patience, and an acute analytical approach to developing systematic problem-solving tactics in photography, which he makes effortless and fun to learn, whether in the field or in the editing suite. Mark’s artistry, empathy, kindness and charm mean he is always a joy to work with, or to be taught by.”

~ Joe Cornish

He is one of the best educators I have ever worked with, regardless of discipline…I will come back in a heartbeat, to take other workshops at the gallery that Mr Banks is conducting.”

~ Richard F, Massachusetts, USA

Snowdonia Landscape Photography Workshop with Mark Banks

Valleys of Mist: Snowdonia

20th - 26th September 2020

Home of the highest mountain in Wales and England, the Snowdonia National Park offers a stunning backdrop for creative landscape photography. With many peaks surrounding the highest mountain of Snowdonia, there are plenty of photo opportunities to be had and with the expert guidance of Mark's good friend and photographer, Steve Ball, who has spent over 30 years scaling these mountains, participants will not only learn how to make great landscape photographs but also be taken to locations less well known for more unique compositions. September is a key month for mist, which adds to the drama and atmosphere of this very special landscape. Please note that we will not be scaling any mountains to make photographs, therefore, those with moderate fitness levels will find this workshop suitable.

After an evening meal, we will discuss subjects such as composition as well as process some of the images made during the day using Adobe Lightroom Classic. Participants will also be encouraged to bring along a small selection of prints for a light-hearted portfolio review session. Join Mark and Steve on this 5-day, 6-night workshop in Snowdonia.

We will be staying in a 4-star Inn on the fringes of the National Park and perfectly placed for convenient access to all areas of Snowdonia. Each participant will have their own fully-equipped double bedroom (no sharing) complete with en-suite facilities. Breakfast and a packed lunch each day are included in the price.

Sunday 20th September 2020 – Hotel check-in
We will meet and greet early evening once checked in before sitting down for an evening meal (not included).
Monday 21st
After breakfast Mark will start with an introductory talk and discuss locations and your photography before heading out to our first location.
Tuesday 23rd – Friday 25th September
The days will be full, starting with tuition on photographic shoots and finishing with the group enjoying dinner together at the Inn each evening. Field trips to Mark and Steve's favourite locations will provide plenty of great photographic opportunities with tuition in all aspects of camera craft and dealing with elusive weather and lighting conditions. Mark will seek to advance your technique, sense of composition and understanding of light and the limited size of the group is designed to allow for lots of one-to-one tuition. While the emphasis of the trip is undoubtedly the photographic field trips Mark and Steve will always fit the daily itinerary to make the most of the prevailing weather conditions.
On the Friday evening, the workshop will end with celebratory drinks and a final show of images taken during the workshop.
Saturday 24th September – Hotel check-out
Participants will depart after breakfast and the workshop closes.

Fitness Level - Easy | Moderate | Challenging

No mountains will be scaled on this workshop although a moderate level of fitness is required due to some locations being elevated with short, steep inclines. However, all locations have been carefully selected for their stunning views, safety, convenience and ease of access.
