"Tell me and I forget.
Teach me and I remember.
Involve me and I learn."

~ Benjamin Franklin

“Mark Banks is quite simply one of the best teachers of photography I have ever met. His secret is an apparently endless supply of patience, and an acute analytical approach to developing systematic problem-solving tactics in photography, which he makes effortless and fun to learn, whether in the field or in the editing suite. Mark’s artistry, empathy, kindness and charm mean he is always a joy to work with, or to be taught by.”

~ Joe Cornish

He is one of the best educators I have ever worked with, regardless of discipline…I will come back in a heartbeat, to take other workshops at the gallery that Mr Banks is conducting.”

~ Richard F, Massachusetts, USA

Yorkshire Summer: Moors & Coast Workshop with professional landscape photographer Mark Banks

Yorkshire Summer: Moors & Coast

 30th August - 5th September 2020

There's no better time of the year than summer to enjoy the spectacular colour of the North York Moors and adjoining coastline. With the largest expanse of heather moorland in England, the North York Moors is the perfect backdrop for creating rich,  colourful landscape images with far-reaching vistas over the vale of York, Mowbray and the Cleveland plain. The nearby coastline extends from the mouth of the River Tees to Whitby and beyond with opportunities aplenty for creating exquisite coastal scenes.

Join Mark on this very special 5-day, 6-night residential workshop where we will explore the best locations around the North East of England - with tuition from Mark always on-hand to help you create your own portfolio of summer-rich images.

We will be based at The Feathers Hotel in the small market town of Helmsley in the heart of the North York Moors - perfectly situated for visiting locations such as...

  • Sutton Bank & Hawnby
  • Roseberry Topping, Gribdale Terrace & Captain Cook's Monument
  • Kildale & Castleton
  • Saltburn & the Teesmouth
  • Whitby, Staithes & Sandsend

Mark's workshops are designed to help you gain a greater understanding of composition, technical skills and post-production advice. Therefore, not only will we visit some amazing locations Mark will also demonstrate how to process your images back at the Hotel on an evening or if the weather is particularly inclement.

Participants are also encouraged to bring along a small set of images either in print or on their laptop or tablet for a portfolio review. This is totally optional and not compulsory if you prefer not to.
